July
23, 2002 -
Aderans
Co., Ltd. has established the Aderans Research
Institute in the United States. The establishment
of Aderans Research Institute will allow Aderans
to advance in the research and development of
medical hair regeneration (Biotechnology). The
head office of Aderans is located at Shinjuku,
Tokyo, and the company president is Takayoshi
Okamoto.
On
June 28th, 2002 Aderans, through Aderans Holdings
Inc. acquired technologies related to tissue
engineering from BioAmide, Inc., including three
granted patents and three pending patents. The
principal office of BioAmide is located in
Atlanta, Georgia. BioAmide
was founded in 1997 with the purpose of developing
products based on organic regeneration techniques.
The Aderans Research Institute will follow
BioAmide's studies and apply this to hair
regeneration, with the objective of future
commercialization. Aderans
Research Institute will be comprised of two
facilities, Atlanta, Georgia and Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Facility, opening
this July, will conduct research from a cellular
and molecular approach, such as the inductioin of
hair follicle growth. The Atlanta Facility, will
employ bioengineering approach concerned with the
packaging and implantation of hair follicle
precursors. The
Chief Scientific Officer of Aderans Research
Institute is Kurt Stenn, M.D., one of the
preeminent scholars in the area of hair follicle
research. Dr. Stenn will be based in the
Philadelphia office. The Atlanta office will be
headed by Thomas Barrows, Ph.D., a biomaterials
polymer chemist with experience in the area of
tissue engineering. Aderans
Research Institute will apply the results obtained
from the two facilities to the hair
transplantation business of Bosley Medical Institute,
Inc. which joined Aderans last year. These
technologies will enable Aderans to actively
provide advanced medical services to patients
suffering from hair loss. In
general, the United States has a high standard of
medical technology. In particular, the country is
among the world's best when it comes to organ
transplantation tissue engineering and
regeneration, with numerous biotechnology
incubator facilities and a range of other
facilities. These facilities include the incubator
sites where Aderans Research Institute will
establish its Philadelphia and Atlanta
facilities. As
a business enterprise focused exclusively on hair,
the Aderans Group intends to direct its effort
toward future research and development to respond
to the needs of our customers who are worried
about hair loss and want to regenerate their hair. For
